Firstly the BBC should be ashamed of having this fake man in this program who claims that he is a prince. I have lived in Sri Lanka most of my life and never heard of a Jaffna Royal family. so you HRH(wanna be) how exactly are you planning to restore ‘A monarchy’ in Jaffna? there would have been some hope if you teamed up with Prabakaran, but with the current political situation in SL he is also no use.
I saw the episode of this undercover prince last night. I am surprised to see there is a prince from Jaffna, Sri Lanka. I was born in Jaffna, Sri Lanka but left for the UK in my early twenties. Now I am 65 years old. I have never known that there was a royal family existed in Jaffna since about a couple of hundread years??. So who is this Prince Remi and what role he has been playing in Jaffna before exiled to the Netherlands.

It will be nice for the Tamils to have there lost Kingdom back and it is the right time for Prince Remigius to get back to his people and Jaffna.

Mr Kanagarajah arbitrarily decided to proclaim himself a “prince” in 2003 through the medium of his personal website despite the fact that Sri Lanka is a Democratic Socialist Republic – and therefore does not recognise titles of nobility, let alone extinct ones. In addition, Mr Kanagarajah has not been able to produce a complete family tree tracing father-son descent from any of the Arya Chakravarti kings (king of Jaffna), rendering his claim even more tenuous.

It was a good work done by the BBC to bring the truth out about the Tamil Kingdom. By this the world will know about the Jaffna Kingdom and about the Royal family. As you have shown on TV, Tamils add their own Kingdom and today they have lost every thing, due to the ongoing war. Even there are some Ministers have been appointed to solve the Tamils problem and they never did anything before for the Tamils and if they do even they will do for there own benefits. Tamils have suffered and now some one as to give them the hand to build there lives back.
The following Tamils Ministers or MPs as TULF representatives V. Ananda Sangaree, EPDP Minister Douglas Devananda, PLOTE representatives D. Sidharthan, T. Sidarthan and Vinayarmurthy Muralitharan will not do anything for the Tamils and they will work according to the Sinhalese government only. I wish as a Tamil if the Prince of Jaffna Remgius Jerry Kanagarajah can get back to Sri Lanka to solve the Tamils problems and bring peace to them. The Royal family of Jaffna has helped the Tamils before the war even. Today in Sri Lanka you cannot trust any one except few good people and the Jaffna Royal Family. I think it as been long time Prince Remigius Kanagarajah as been living in exile and it is high time to get back to Jaffna. May the peace be with the Tamils?

As stated earlier, Mr Kanagarajah has not been able to produce a complete family tree tracing father-son descent from any of the Arya Chakravarti kings (king of Jaffna). The Jaffna kings were deposed by the Portuguese in 1619, so it has nothing to do with the civil war. You are thinking about the Kings of Kandy who ruled Sri Lanka until 1815 when Sri Vikrama Rajasinha was deposed by the British.

Sri, there is no need for inflamatory ad hominem attacks in civilised society. To satisfy your curiosity, I am a descendant of Sri Vikrama Rajasinha, the Last King of Kandy. My family received the privy purse until 1965 – but now we just carry on with our lives as “Mr…” and “Ms…”. I am proud of my heritage but I don’t like to impose outdated systems of government on the citizens of a Democratic Socialist Republic Sri Lanka.
I hope you do some research and in the process learn some manners.

The Jaffna kingdom came to an end with the military advances of the Protugese who forcefully converted all claimants to the throne to Christianity and had most of them shipped to monestaries abroad. It is therefore unlikely that anyone can claim to be directly descended from the Arya Chakravathi dynasty. In addition, only those who were born from two royal parents were considered as royalty in ancient Sri Lanka. The offspring of Kings and non-royal women were generally awarded some other form of noble title. Therefore, it is unlikely that even if the (alledged) descendant has ancestors from within Jaffna royalty, they cannot claim to be princes or kings as the family wthout a kingdom cannot have married royal wives fo 400 years.

The family of the last King of Kandy are the ones with any royalty or rights to them.I understand that they live a simple life in India and ‘The Prince of Jaffna’ had been trying to gain credibility by communicating with them, in the past. He had insulted the previous head who passed away by publishing letters from him on his website that should be kept confidential.
Let’s face facts, whether Remigius is a descendant is not the question, the question is one cannot appear in 2003 and claim to be Prince and be called HRH with the claim of being the Head of the Royal House of Jaffna as it just did not exist in the form that Remigius is claiming.
There are many descendants of the Royal House of Kandy and those associated with them i.e the Naikar or Nayak Dynasty. There is no clear headship for most descendants of Nayak Dynasty, while there are senior male descendants rather than one individual. Some of them live in Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa outside of India.
Remigius started various chivalric orders… all new creations and with not historical basis.
In the programme ‘The Undercover Princes’ he seems to be trying very hard to ‘stamp’ the fact that he is royal and can only marry or royal or aristocrat person.
He had misled the Royal House of Portugal and that is all. It is very sad that HRH Dom Duarte, The Duke of Braganca had been misled.

The Family of Kandian king was not actualy a Kandian decendent. The last king was choosen from Nayak family in South India the youngest son of the Royal family. The king was humiliated by Kandian people by throwing stones and also removing the cloths of his wife the queen and the British who came to rescue there family. The king and Queen were send to india by boat.
The history of Sri Lanka is full of stories of kings coming from non royal descendents.

Mr Kanagarajah is not a real descendant of the last rulers of Jaffna. He has no right to make any such claim, and I am absolutely certain of that as a fact – he contacted me years ago to get information about the genealogy of the Arya Chakravartis, and only after he got it did he build his family tree. I have checked and he has no relationship to the people he says he does – certainly not to P Ramanathan and Chittampalam Gardiner. I checked both of those families carefully. They’ve never heard of him.
I am disappointed with ‘The Undercover Princes’ program for their irresponsibility and unprofessionalism in running this story. They have simply not done any research at all. They have contributed to a fraud and they have interfered in the political processes of a sovereign country through their negligence.
Whatever the politics of the people of the island Sri Lanka, they don’t deserve this added complication.

Mr Kanagarajah arbitrarily decided to start calling himself a prince in 2005. He is not a descendant of the kings of Jaffna, or a member of any recognised royal family, past or present for that matter.
His attempt at a family is incomplete and fraudulent. The descendants of the kings of Jaffna may still be out there. Mr Kanagarajah just doesn’t happen to be one of them.
